Is this a game we play?
I cannot tell; the rules
Are snakes in the grass
That only you can see.
Poker would be easier to learn,
Thirty-six faces, twelve royals, four aces,
And only one joker in the pack.
I would count all of the cards,
Keep track of what you’ve discarded;
These electric pulses I can’t fathom
As you dart between their signals.
And each time I fold my hand
And prepare to cut my losses,
You show your hand, a straight of hearts,
And ask, “Do you want to play?”
